A Simple Salad

My family usually has Thanksgiving dinner at my parents house.  This year, my oldest sister and her children are coming to celebrate.  They have not celebrated any holiday with us in over 20 years.  This means my mom and dad will have their four daughters and their families all under one roof.  I have a feeling my mother is over the moon about this.  I just hope everyone behaves.  I have already verbalized my warnings.

Anywhoo.

My mother makes all the basics, and my sister Lynn and I usually bring some sides.  There is usually a flavored martini or bottle of wine to be found.

I have always wanted to host a huge Thanksgiving dinner at my home.  I have visions of a huge table with Martha Stewart inspired decorations.  There would be gorgeous, but simple and rustic place settings at each seat.

We would start out with something small before the main course was served.

Maybe a salad.  This is a pear, blue cheese, and walnut salad with a maple syrup vinaigrette.  You can find the recipe here.

It is light, simple, and delicious.

Being the host, I would of course be wearing a fabulous outfit.

Now this is my idea of a simple salad.

I at times tend to dress preppy and very reminiscent of a mom from the 40′s and 50′s. I love it!

  1. I am excited that your whole family will be together. What a blessing! We just do our own small Thanksgiving here with us 4 but now 5! We make it super special. My kids get to be with their dad on Thanksgiving day every year because he has a huge family and I feel it is important for them to all be together, then we celebrate the next day.
