A Quick Painted Vase

Flowers make me happy.

They are colorful, and have so many different shapes and textures.

They also need a cool and simple place to hang out.

That is where this quick tutorial comes in.

001You will need the following materials.

  • Glass container or jar.
  • Paint (I used some white latex left over from this project).
  • Small paint brush
  • Cup of coffee in a bright yellow mug (I promise it will make your day!)

010I knew I wanted to paint hearts on my glass jars, so I just free handed them.  You can pick anything you want to paint on yours.  I think white polka dots would look great too.  I recommend white paint because it is such a clean and simple color, and somehow makes the glass pop.

011I did not want the flowers to overtake the vase, so I chose these.  They are perfect, circlular, yellow, and simple.

What I love most about these vases, is that they can go anywhere.  They are simple and clean.  There is something earthy about them that I love.  I can put them anywhere in my house and they will go with the decor.

012

014They look really good with cookies.  They would be perfect on a tray for a sweet Mother’s Day breakfast in bed.

So next time you save a pickle jar, grab some paint, and head to the local flower shop.  It will put a smile on your face, and that is what crafts should do.

Put a smile on your face!

DIY Quick Canvas Bulletin Board

My oldest daughter Jenna was needing a bulletin board in her room, but I did not want to spend any money.

This is pretty much how I get all my crafting ideas.

I found a leftover canvas, and the little bulb lit up over my head.

I had sketched all over this canvas, so before I began, I painted it with some leftover white latex paint.

Now my sweet girl as a place to pin some of her favorite things.  I have kept many of the magazine clippings, concert tickets, and photos that I kept on my bulletin boards in college.  They bring back some fond memories.

I am pretty sure that very soon it will be full of the One Direction boys.

Have you made anything fun lately?

Before And After… The Tale Of An Armoire.

Back in 2008, when I was pregnant with my little bit, my sister Heather moved back to Texas for a year and lived with us.  When she moved back to Seattle, we traded out furniture.  I got the Ikea  armoire, and she took the men’s antique dresser/closet.

The armoire as been sitting naked since then.  I am not a fan of naked furniture.  The armoire will not make another move, so I finally decided to add a little color.

Here is a picture of the before.

057I use this cabinet to hold things that need to be easily accessible to my girls.

Here are a few shots of the after.

034

038We had to rehang the doors, and I hose to go with a muted silver hinge I found at Walmart.  Pair that with the simple black knobs from Ikea, and I think it looks pretty darn awesome.

037I like that when I removed the tape for the stripes, it shows a little of the original wood color.  It gives it that rustic look.

I am very happy with the results, and it has motivated me to paint a few more things in the house.

On the list is an old cedar chest, and a chair that I painted years ago, that needs a redo.

Some people take pictures, while some paint on canvas.  I have always felt most creative when I am painting furniture.

Happy Wednesday!

I Decorated Knobs For Easter

There have been tons and tons of Easter egg decorating ideas all over Pinterest these past few weeks.

While I love a good decorated egg, I did not need any decorated eggs.

I need knobs.

I have a dresser in the entry way that has been needing new knobs for about 6 months.  I went to all the hardware stores, Hobby Lobby, World Market etc, but nothing really jumped out at me.  I wanted something inexpensive that if I decided to change would not create a huge place of guilt in me for paying a a ton of dinero.  So one day I was walking through Walmart and found plain round wood knobs that I could paint.

Sweet.

007Those colors make my heart sing.  My dresser is a mint green, so I thought these would be perfect.  At first I was going to go with black and white, but since that was my color choice for the dining room I went with these above.

010I am giddy.

Once the color was on, I decided to add a pattern.  I first tried a star, but it was not clean enough so I went with my second favorite thing to doodle….stripes.

I just used some white indoor latex for the stripes.  While I could have used tape to give it clean lines, I was not in the mood for this project to take all day so I just painted the stripes right on.  I am a rebel.

015Ten are painted and I have ten more to go.  Then to seal and grab a screwdriver.

Not too bad for something that only took me about 20-30 minutes to do.

Of course, I had an assistant.

011

Once she saw the paints come out, it was on.

Speaking of eggs, we get eggs from Mr. Kells dad who has chickens.  They are too cool looking for me to color.

017aSo pretty all on their own, and so much tastier.

Clipboard Fun!

Who doesn’t love a good clipboard?  They are super handy.  I like to use them in my girls room to keep all their extra paper organized and in one place since they like to draw.

I was having way too much fun crafting today in my kitchen and I came up with a little something.

032I have slowly been starting a washi tape collection, and thought an old clip board would be fun to embellish.  I got the idea from all the gallery walls I have seen on Pinterest, and perusing blogs.  I love how the clipboards are being used as the frame.   A very simple way to display your favorite cards and prints.  Plus, you can change them out when you feel the need.

All I did was wrap the front of the clipboard with different patterns of of the washi tape, then place my card on the front.

031

It goes great with my cute little message center in my kitchen.

Now it is time to clean of the kitchen table and start folding my girls laundry.

A Quickie Kitchen Message Center

There is not a lot of wall space in my kitchen.  I kinda like it because I do not feel like I need to fill space.

I had mentioned some time before that I was needing a quick way to keep up with my girls things for school like yearbooks, Valentine party items etc.  The fridge nor my phone were working at keeping me organized.  Neither was the huge bulletin board I have in my laundry room.  You see, I am the woman who has datebooks, phone messages, and lists everywhere, and still will forget something.  I have learned that if it is not in my face, as a constant reminder, then it will be forgotten.

That is why I came up with this.

All I used was a left over strand of pom pom garland, and some clothes pins I embellished.  It really was that easy!

I just took some 3/8″ ribbon, cut it the length of the clothes pin, and hot glued it to the pin.  Viola, a cute clothes pin.

I like strips, but I am a lover of polka dots.  They are just so happy.

Now I have a cute colorful place to keep me organized.  I am thinking of adding a cute chalkboard for messages to my girls like flush the toilet, or pick up your dishes.

I spent a total of $1.00 at Walmart for the clothes pins.  The other items I already had in my craft bins.

Now I have a cute message center just for me!

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

My sweet pea says this all the time.  Today after school she was trying to find a new word to say instead of dang it.  You see, dang it is her favorite word.

The vegetable soup is simmering on the stove,  we just got done rocking out to Jesse’s Girl, and now it is time to get ready for gymnastics.

Two hours of gymnastics.  Yeah me!

Anywhoo, back to the title.

Art for your home can be very easy.  All you need is the following.

  1. A frame from the goodwill.
  2. Scrapbook paper
  3. A cute card or small print like one from here.

Put all those things together and you get this……

Happy Friday everyone!

Barrettes And Wreaths

valentinecraftMy girls and I sat around the kitchen table the other day and made some fun barrettes and Valentine wreaths for the fireplace.  We sat around, talked about our day, and snacked.  You see, I also went to the grocery store that day so the pantry was full.  My daughter Abby was constantly saying “I am in heaven.”

I was learning the finer art of cooking from none other than Ina Garten (on the tele).

We jammed to One Direction, and I congratulated my girls on their awesome report cards.  One good thing that has come from our spontaneous move, is that my girls are absolutely thriving in school.  My oldest loves going to school now, which makes me so happy.  She was not doing well last year, and has done a complete 180.  Education is very important to me.

I was proud of our finished products.  The girls wore their barrettes today, and I hung the wreaths above the fireplace for a little bit of love in the living room.

We ended the night with some sight words and breakfast for dinner.  All and all a great family day!

Christmas Vignette

I have loved putting little bits of Christmas here and there in our home.  My oldest Jenna likes to make fun of me.  She is getting so big.  One day, she will appreciate my silly awesomeness.

007This is a small piece of my mantle.

041I will forever collect Christmas figurines.  I buy a new one every year.  Paper straws, cute pencils, mason jars with bows equals total awesomeness.

040I made some more Christmas trees this year.  I also ventured into the world of snow globes.  Would you believe me if I told you I made that snowglobe for $1? It helps when you are a craft supply hoarder.

050

This is just pretty.

006

The Kell family mantle.

I am going to be really sad when Christmas is over, and I have to take everything down.  It is going to feel so bare in my house.

Garland + Another Wreath = Awesome!

Ugh, my mouse is broke on my laptop, and I had to run to Walmart at 5 to go get a new one.  Walmart at that time is crazy nuts.

For some reason, I was crazy productive today.  I put away laundry and scrubbed floor boards.  I also cleaned a bathroom and made some wall art.

Really, it was like I was nesting without the baby in my uterus.

I also found a dining room table on Craigslist.  I hope it is available Wednesday, because I work tomorrow.

The most important task I accomplished, was making a couple more Christmas crafts.

First I made another wreath.  There was a wall in my kitchen that was screaming for something Christmasy.

019OMG I love this sooo much.  It is so fabulous.  I have decided that there will always be a wreath on this wall.  Mr. Kell likes the idea.

I used the following supplies.

018Then I made some garland.

This is a from a Martha Stewart Christmas craft that keeps on giving.  Last December, Joann’s was having a sell on Martha Stewart craft packets.  It was full of paper circles to make ornaments. I have used them for a million other things.  Just another reason to love Martha!

Hope everyone has a fabulous Tuesday.  I will be getting up at 0530 when it is 19 degrees outside to take care of people who have had heart surgery.

Fun times people, fun times…
