The Needles Came Out

Today is going to be all kinds of fun.

1.  I need to get my tire fixed.  I really hope it only needs a plug, and I do not need a new tire.

2.  It is yearly physical day!!!!!  Can you see my smile?

3.  I am finally breaking down and buying some new scrubs.  I have dropped a few sizes, and clothes are starting to get a little too baggy.

Yesterday, I decided to grab some yarn and my needles, and start knitting a pattern from my Ravelry library.  I have to say I really like the way it is turning out.

When it is finished it will look like this.

Something I Learned Yesterday

It has been cool here every morning since this past Saturday.  I really need to buy some more cardigans.

I was sitting outside, drinking coffee, and playing on the computer when I came across this picture.

I have talked about this scarf before, and decided it was time to start knitting one for myself.  So, I went to YouTube and learned to knit this very stitch.

I am hooked, and I cannot wait till it is done.

I was told once by an old boss you should learn something new everyday.

What did you learn?

Football Season = Knitting For Me

I am already in football hell.  I would just like to get that off my chest right now.  I used to have a love for football.  I loved the competition.  I loved that the better team did not always win.   I can now say, that I am completely and utterly over it.

Go baseball.

It is time to get out the knitting needles.  I get some of my best knitting done during football season.

Now, what am I going to knit?

Scarves, cowls, dishcloths, and whatever else I have time for.

Here are some ideas I have been pinning.

This scarf is fabulous.

You can never go wrong with a cowl.  They look good with just about anything.  You can get the pattern for free here.

I think Jane Richmond has the best patterns.  You can check out her website here.  I want to knit like her.

In my opinion, and knitted dishcloth is the best dishcloth ever.  They also make great gifts.

School starts in two weeks, and I have decided to home school my youngest instead of sending her to pre-k.  There is much to organize, and no uniforms in our new school means there will be some fun shopping ahead.  Once that is all done, it will be time to head to the yarn store, and get the needles out.

I am so ready.

What do you like to knit?

Recommended For You

So I secluded myself in my bedroom last night to try and get some knitting done.  I decided I would have a movie playing in the background, so I pulled Netflix up on the computer.

Anyone who uses Netflix, knows that there is a “recommended” section just for you, and in my case just for me.  Being a hopeless romantic, I decided to check that section first, since I am always looking for a good romance.  You see, I watch a ton of romantic movies.

That is the last time I listen to any recommendation that Netflix gives me.  It recommended that I watch Griffin and Phoenix.  Seriously?  Really?  Have you ever watched that movie? It is about two people who meet and fall in love, all the while they are both dying of cancer.  Yeah, that screams romance!  I spent the whole next day crying after I caught the movie on Lifetime.  When I here Hold You In My Arms by Ray Lamontagne, that movie is what I think of.  It is rip your heart out sad.

So, I went to iTunes and rented Jane Eyre, again.  I have issues.  Take a number.

Micheal Fassbender plays an awesome Mr. Edward Rochester.

I would have totally been his Jane Eyre.  Someone needs to remake the movie just one more time so I can play Jane Eyre.  It will be hard to believe that I am 19, but they could always make it for seniors.  I am 35, so Mr. Rochester would have to be in his 50 or 60s.  Just kidding, I could totally pull off at least a 25 year old.  I want Ray Fiennes to be my Mr. Rochester.  Anyways, issues.

I have been keeping up with the 30 Day Photo Challenge.

Here are some of my pics.

  • Day 2 – Smile
  • Day 3 – Happiness = My wedding band = my lovin man
  • Day 4 -Leaves
  • Day 5 – Morning Sky

  • Day 6 – Books
  • Day 7 – Something Funny
  • Day 8 – Favorite color  HOT PINK

I will admit I got a little behind, but I have since set up reminders.

This is my first cowl.  It is so soft and warm.  It initially was supposed to look like this.  I kept messing up the seed stitch, so I just knitted.  I wore it yesterday to pastries with parents at my girls school.  I have since mastered the seed stitch, and will be making another one.

I have seven scarfs on my to-do list for Christmas gifts for my girls teachers.

They are going to look like this.

This is how far I have gotten.

Next is the cable.  I wanted to have a good night sleep before I tackled the cable.

Yarn makes me happy.

All you ladies out there, I recommend you go out and buy a pretty dress and some new shoes.

Maybe something like this.

My last recommendation is to read Harry Potter.  I am a few pages shy of completing the first book.  It has taken me forever, but I am so glad I kept it even though it is overdue.  What’s a couple of bucks right?

Happy Weekend Y’all

Some Knitting Fun

I am in the process of finalizing what I will be knitting for Christmas gifts this year.  This time of year marks when I put my love for reading to the side, and let the crazy knitter surface.  I think I actually loose weight when I knit, because I do not have an extra hand to eat a snack.  Go figure.

I like to start with what yarn I want to use.  This usually depends on which craft store has the better coupons.  I switch from Michaels  to Hobby Lobby.  Each store has a pretty decent selection.  If there is a yarn that I am dying to have that is not in the store, I usually will order it from here.

I usually knit scarves because they are easy, and depending on the size of needles I use, I can knock it out in a day.  I have started baby blankets, but end up not liking how they are turning out.

This year I would like to try a beanie hat, blanket, some fingerless gloves, plus keep with my old stand by the scarf.

Here are some pictures to give you and idea.

They look so warm and snuggly, and make me wish for the days I do not have to use my air conditioning in my car.

I am ready for some cooler weather.  My crock pot is lookin to see some more action.

Happy knitting.

The Itch to Knit

It is starting to happen, and earlier this year than last.  I am getting the itch to knit.  My sister is a seasonal knitter, and I have to concur.  I have realized, that I to only knit in the fall.  I think it is because I like to knit scarves.

I am currently working on a baby blanket that will probably be ready for Christmas (sorry Marni).  If I have any extra time, I will sit down and knit a quick cotton dishcloth.

With the help of Pinterest, I have been cataloging some great knitting patterns, and think I am going to take a stab at one of them.

Isn’t this a great cowl? I am thinking of changing the colors, and using a larger yarn. I like to knit with larger needles.

I am excited to start knitting again.  I hope the procrastinator in me does not take over and I can actually finish this before it starts to get cold.

If you knit, and are interested in this pattern, you can find it at http://www.purlbee.com/striped-cotton-cowl/

Happy Knitting

Delaying Prozac

About four years ago my little sister taught me how to knit. I dabbled with it off and on and finally one day it stuck. There are not words for the delight that I feel when I am crafty. When my right brain takes over all my inhibitions go away. My left brain being the dictator that it is does get a little piece of the action. I have to use both of my hands, sometimes patterns are involved which means I have to read, and if you do not watch carefully a mistake can be made. A MISTAKE I said, which is what this type A cannot and will not tolerate.

When I knit, I can tune out everything that is going on around me. I love all the different types and colors of yarn. If life is driving me nuts, I grab my 19 bamboo needles and start knitting. I figure this will tide me over till I truly need to be medicated. Maybe by then, Walmart will have 30 pills for $1.50? It could happen.
