Oh Rhett!

I am so doing this.  I just started reading Gone With The Wind, and I could not be more excited.

An epic love story set during one of my favorite times in history.  Yep, I am a civil war nut.

Big dresses, southern accents, people thinking they are better than everyone because they are rich, and that was just in the movie.

The first words of the book start like this…

“Scarlett O’Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm…”

One of the most recognized fictional characters, and her creator says she is not beautiful.  Also, I find it ironic that some as stunning as Vivien Leigh played her in the movie.

I am excited to see how the book is different.  I am hoping for more Scarlett and Rhett interaction.  Will Melanie annoy me like she did in the movie?

While I read, I most certainly will be thinking about this guy.

Seriously ladies, could he be more handsome?

Just for fun, some clips from the movie.

Considering there are over 1000 pages in the book, I better get to reading.

Honor System

blank1I believe in honesty.  I am dumbfounded and disappointed when I am or others are lied to.  I believe in morals, ethics, and values.  I believe that you are supposed to do the right thing.

Call me old fashioned, call me stupid, I believe in integrity.

I was looking through my sister’s Instagram feed, and I cam across this picture.

It is a home made box in the middle of the neighborhood with books inside.   It runs on the honor system.  I did a a little research and found out there is something called The Little Free Library Movement.

Be still my heart.  Encouraging reading and some good old values at the same time.  I melt.

I wonder if something like this would thrive in my neighborhood?

Speaking of reading, books, and honesty…

Do not forget to join your public library’s summer reading program.  Ours starts June 1.  My girls get excited about winning prizes.  I get excited when they sit down and tell me about the books they are reading with excitement on their face.

Reading brings me joy, and I want it to bring joy to my girls too.

Now to compile a list of books to read this summer.

Happy Monday!

The Mighty O

Today I am doing something special, and I am very excited.

My little sister Heather lives in Seattle, and she is going to be a guest writer for this here blog.  She is going to write about the the seriously sassy things you can do in her favorite city.  As long as I can remember, my sister has wanted to live in Seattle.  I hate that she lives so far away, but it is always fun to visit.

So without further ado, let’s see what she has to talk about today.

My Happy Place

Tucked into the Tangletown area of Greenlake, in Seattle, Washington, is home to my favorite donut shop, Mighty-O Donuts.  I have been going to Mighty-O since 2006.  It is a weekly stop of mine and always a part of my birthday celebrations.  Now donuts, in general are one of my favorite things but Mighty-O’s are my ultimate fave!  It all started with the French Toast donut. LOVE AT FIRST BITE!!! My personal favorite and first to recommend to a newbie. I have had every flavor ever created so I will not lead you down the wrong flavor path! Ok, unless you are allergic to cinnamon then I would recommend the Grasshopper! Everything is amazing! My personal seasonal favorite right now is the Orange Blossom!
What makes Mighty-O shine above the rest is that they are organic and vegan.  Yes, you heard me, no animals were used in the making of these donuts! Except the humans making them (and what angels they are)!!!  You may be asking yourself how good can they taste when butter or milk or eggs are not involved? Well, the company  started in 2000 and is still around 12 years later and in March 2011 they were crowned NATIONAL DONUT CHAMPIONS on Food Network! They beat out everyone! They are a growing local business not only in my city but in my neighborhood and that is something I will always support as I hope you will too! If you are ever in Seattle take a trip to Mighty-O and walk around beautiful Greenlake (another favorite place of mine)! I will meet you there or I may already be there!

Have a seriously sassy day you seriouslysassymama readers!!!!!

Love,

Treadmills, Matlock, And My Top 10 Workout Songs

I prefer running outside, but there are benefits to running on a treadmill.

  • You are usually in a controlled environment.
  • If it is a fancy treadmill, there are already built in workouts and possibly a TV.
  • You do not have to worry about cars.
  • You do not have to worry about the possibly of getting sprayed by a skunk. (I live by a large wooded area, and when I smell a skunk, I do not run).
  • There is a place for your water bottle, keys, and iPhone.
  • The best part, you can watch Matlock while you are running.

I love Matlock.  I discovered that it was on for two hours in the morning not long after Mr. Kell was jobless.  Since I went back to full time work, I was unable to watch it.  The movie Waitress reminded me how much I love Andy Griffith.  Now that Mr. Kell is back at work, I can enjoy my silly southern lawyer solve cases.  His seersucker suits are the best.

So there I am at 0800 in the morning running on the treadmill while watching Matlock.  Hard to believe that I am the only one watching Matlock at the gym.  I also bet no one listens to Ronnie Milsap while they cook.  It is all a part of my charm.

He He!

I was recently reading in Women’s Health about a list of the 10 best workout songs.  I did not know any of them so I thought I would list my own.

  1. Single Ladies – Beyonce
  2. Signed Sealed Delivered – Stevie Wonder
  3. All Night Long – Brian McNight & Nelly
  4. Candyman – Glee version
  5. Aint No Other Man – Christina Aguilera
  6. Come On Over Baby – Christina Aguilera
  7. Without You – David Guetta & Usher
  8. Bootylicious – Destiny’s Child
  9. Friday – Glee version
  10. Best Friends Brother – Victorious Sound Track

These are the 10 that I am loving right now.

What songs do you like to workout to?

I Have A Dirty Habit

First, I want everyone to take a minute and listen to this song really loud.  I mean loud.

Now, get up a clean something.

Anything.

Do it now.

This is how it all begins for me.  One song can set me up for the whole day.  This one popped up on my playlist when I was at the gym yesterday.  I was energized.  It stayed with me the whole day, and I was able to get some fun crafting completed.

Anywhoo

My dirty little secret.

I listen to my girls music when I exercise.  There I said it.  I am the mom at the gym who is running to One Direction, and lifting weights to Justin Beiber and the Victorious soundtrack.  I cannot help myself.  It is so fun to work out to.  Oh the life of a mom who has three daughters.

I really does  not surprise though.  I was a lover of New Kids On The Block.  It was my first concert ever!

Now, some of my favorite tunes…

What is a shorty?

Last, but not least…

Signed I still do not know what a shorty is.

If I Could Dress My Man For One Day

Oh, if I could dress Mr. Kell for one day.

Mr. Kell likes to wear jeans, boots, and a t-shirt of the camo variety.  He never deviates from the colors green and blue.  He wears the occasional red polo only because it is one that I bought.  He is not flashy.   He will wear a dress shirt, khakis, and dress shoes if we are going somewhere that calls for it.

I had Mr. Kell sit down with me last night to see what I picked out for him…

A scarf and a hat.  I love these hats.

I love a good plaid shirt.  This plaid is a little too large for my guy.

I asked my husband if he would wear a sweater with a blazer, and he just replied blazer?  Again with the hat and scarf.

This is just hot.  I love vests layered with a sport coat.

Every man should have to wear a tuxedo once in their life.  I hope the time comes soon when I get to see Mr. Kell wear one.  For our wedding, the men wore grey suits.  Super handsome.

Mr. Kell just laughed when I showed him the pics.  Then he asked if he had a pair of jeans and a blue polo clean for work.

Guess what I am doing today?  Heading to JCPenny to buy him some more polos and jeans.  His old uniform pieces are getting old.

Maybe I will surprise him with a little something.

Signed my husband is a handsome country boy.

Six Things I Am Loving Right Now

collage
  1. I have 5 old domino magazines from long ago, and I love sitting in my closet looking through them.  I pretty much have the pages memorized.  It was such a good magazine.
  2. I have said it before, bendy straws rock.  How can you not get giddy and smile when you get one?  I ask you how?
  3. A Starbucks decaf caramel macchiato is my go to drink.  I like to think I am Meg Ryan in You’ve Got Mail.
  4. I just bought a few more throw pillows to add to my collection in the living room.  I decided to add ones to mix and match, instead of buying all new pillows.
  5. TOMS really needs to restock these shoes.  I must have them.  I am fixing to make a super purchase. Four pairs of TOMS.  I cannot wait to see which ones my girls pick out.
  6. I love a good canvas tote.  I really like all the hand painted ones I have been seeing on other blogs and Pinterest.  You cannot go wrong with Napoleon.  Watching him dance just makes me happy.  It can make me smile when I am having a crappy day.  That, and getting a nice tasty bass.

I hope you guys have a happy day!!!

Taking Care of Me Begins…

The multivitamins have been bought, and after eight years, I have finally made an eye appointment for a new pair of glasses.

I have also put together a little facial cleaning regimen for myself.  My old regimen consisted of either washing my face with some St. Ives, or whatever bar of soap was around, and then finishing it all off with some coconut oil.

Being three years from 40 made me start thinking about doing a little more.

Face Regimen

I decided to start with some glycolic acid and vitamin A because I have very flaky skin, and this scrub really exfoliates.  I used to get glycolic acid peels.  I suffered from adult acne and had to take accutane.  The vitamin A and glycolic acid have really helped with the scars..

There are too many eye creams to choose from, so I just decided to choose one of the more popular ones.

I have actually used argan oil before, and really liked it.  I have used it for three days, and already my skin is soft in the morning, and I can no longer see little dry flakes on my forehead.  Plus, argan oil absorbs quicker than coconut oil so I am not left with an oily face for too long.

I chose products that were essentially all natural because they are usually less irritating to my skin.
I am loving the results I am seeing right now.

Next step, buying new make-up.  This is going to be to be a tough one since all I have really worn the past 5 years is lipstick.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I chose the above brands because I have used them before.  They do not know me from Adam.

Fun Finds From Ikea

A few weeks ago little but and I went to Ikea for a little fun.  I love walking around getting ideas, then heading up stairs for some meatballs, mashed potatoes, and gravy.  I swear it is the only thing I eat there, unless I am shopping on barbecue rib day.  Who says no to barbecue ribs?  Not this girl.  My momma raised me right.

Anywhoo…

This was the first time I visited since the new catalog came out, and boy how I wish there was a magic money tree in my backyard.  My mission was to look for a chair for our living room so my husband would stop sitting in a dining chair right in front of the TV.  At least it is an upgrade from camping chair he used to sit in.

Honey if you are reading this, I will set your camping chair on fire if it ends up in my living room again!

I am leaning towards this chair even though is is completely impractical with the print.  I know I would never tire of the print, but I am not so sure about what Mr. Kell would think about sitting in a flowery chair.

I did not leave with a chair, but I did leave with $65 worth of other Ikea finds.

Two of my favorites were a cute polka dotted tray, and a rooster pillow.

My kitchen consists of all these colors, so I had to have this tray.  Besides, it goes with this tray that I bought last Spring.  The tray is in the kitchen section, and costs $6.99.

I use this tray on the half wall that separates the kitchen from the living room.  It houses our candy bowl.

These colors make me so happy.

As much has I loved the tray, it was the pillow below that made me squeal.

Totally awesome!

Another great day at Ikea.

Have you been to Ikea lately?  What caught your eye?
