I Decorated Knobs For Easter

There have been tons and tons of Easter egg decorating ideas all over Pinterest these past few weeks.

While I love a good decorated egg, I did not need any decorated eggs.

I need knobs.

I have a dresser in the entry way that has been needing new knobs for about 6 months.  I went to all the hardware stores, Hobby Lobby, World Market etc, but nothing really jumped out at me.  I wanted something inexpensive that if I decided to change would not create a huge place of guilt in me for paying a a ton of dinero.  So one day I was walking through Walmart and found plain round wood knobs that I could paint.

Sweet.

007Those colors make my heart sing.  My dresser is a mint green, so I thought these would be perfect.  At first I was going to go with black and white, but since that was my color choice for the dining room I went with these above.

010I am giddy.

Once the color was on, I decided to add a pattern.  I first tried a star, but it was not clean enough so I went with my second favorite thing to doodle….stripes.

I just used some white indoor latex for the stripes.  While I could have used tape to give it clean lines, I was not in the mood for this project to take all day so I just painted the stripes right on.  I am a rebel.

015Ten are painted and I have ten more to go.  Then to seal and grab a screwdriver.

Not too bad for something that only took me about 20-30 minutes to do.

Of course, I had an assistant.

011

Once she saw the paints come out, it was on.

Speaking of eggs, we get eggs from Mr. Kells dad who has chickens.  They are too cool looking for me to color.

017aSo pretty all on their own, and so much tastier.

Sometimes You Only Have A Few Bucks

Sometimes, all you have is a few bucks, and an old frame.

I am here to tell you you do not have to spend tons of money to make wreaths that you see on Pinterest.

You could easily visit Hobby Lobby and peruse through the Christmas isles where everything is 50% off.  Then, there is the dollar bins at Target.

The point is, spending lots of $$$$$ does not always give you a beautiful wreath.

Crafting should be fun, you should make what you like.  Not something that is going to give you a ton of hits on Pinterest.

037aI like to call it my Mod Wreath.

I took an old IKEA RIBBA frame and covered it with some shiny silver metallic ribbon.  The red bulbs are actually gift tags. Last, I added some mini ornaments that I found at Target.  10 bulbs for $1.  You cannot beat that.

Squares rock!

I Had Nothing To Do

About a month ago, I decided to get out the fabric scraps and make something instead of getting ready for a full weekend of work.

I also had a leftover frame from an old Ikea poster.

I prefer to buy the scraps of fabric from the craft store instead of by the yard.  They are already cut out in cute little squares for me to use to wrap gifts, make bunting, etc.  One day I will feel the need, or have the want to sew.  It is just not now.

I took each scrap of fabric, and starting cutting them into strips.  Each strip ended up being a different size.  After the strips were cut, I just started wrapping the scraps around the frame.  I only glued the tip from the first scrap and the tip of the last scrap of fabric that was placed on the frame.

This is what I ended up with.

It is currently hanging above my newly painted dresser in my new entryway, which I am almost ready to reveal.  I told Mr. Kell that I would keep the living room and bedroom tame, but the entryway will be a whole lotta me!

I hope everyone had a great Monday!

I spent the day renewing my ability to be an advanced cardiac life supporter.

Peace Out!

Some Decorations For The Wrist

Today was the first day I actually sat down with my girls to work on some math and reading.  Now it is time to sit down and plan some crafts for the rest of the summer.

Since I am the mommy of three girls, I wanted to start with a craft that my girls can wear.

Who am I kidding…  I want to wear them too.

My jewelry regimen consists of earrings and a wedding band, and I thought I would expands my horizons a little bit.

I chose bracelets.

I crochet and knit, but I have never finger crocheted.  This will be too much fun.  Click here for the tutorial.

Wrap bracelets are all the rage, and this tutorial looks the easiest out of all that I have seen.

These are great, but probably a little to difficult for my girls.

I will save this craft for a craft date with my friend Marni!

I think this will be a good place to start with my girls.  Their attention span is not the best.

Have a happy day!

Where Am I Going To Put All Those Valentines?

I love craft kits.  I love when everything is packaged and ready to use.  All the required tools are in one place, and you are not rummaging around the house for crayons, paper, glitter and glue.

Craft kits are another reason why I love Target.

The girls needed to decorate cereal boxes for their valentines at school, and Target had the best little kits to do the job.  Everything was in one container, and all we needed was a glue stick and a glue gun.  Mommy was very happy.

This was one of the packages.  The other one was full of sponge sticker with self adhesives.  Yes, I said self adhesive.  Combine that with some lovey scrap book paper, and paper heart doilies from The Dollar Tree, and you have a craft time with your daughters that will not crack the bank.

These sparkly, spikey balls and pipe cleaners were my favorite.  I think I will head back to Target today to see if they have any on clearance.  Extra stash for another craft day!

The perfect little box for my sweethearts school valentines.

Total cost for crafts and cereal boxes…….$15.00.

Not bad for crafts with three girls, with tons of extra left over for another day!

I Can’t Stop Crafting, Or Watching Cheesy Romantic Christmas Movies!

I am trying to get the rest of my crafting done for the house, so I can focus on my homemade Christmas gifts.  I have 5 teachers, and two friends whose gifts have to be done by next Friday.  No pressure.

I also have to clothe my husband for his work Christmas party.  I just have a shirt to buy for me thanks to an awesome cardigan I found at The Dress Barn.  Plus, it was on sale!  My husband is scared he will be in a sweater with a collar shirt.  What is wrong with that?  I have dreamed of my husband wearing that exact outfit.  He would be HOT!  (He reads my blog, so I am using these words to persuade him).

I got this great idea from here.  They are button balls, and they were fun to make.  I went to Walmart and bought two bags of buttons in red, white, and a multi-color pack that had green, aqua, and turquoise.  The styrofoam balls came in a back of  6 from Hobby Lobby.  You can find the stick pins anywhere.

You just place a button on the ball, and stick it in place with a pin.  As my daughter would say easy cheesy lemony squeezy.

The finished product Instagram style.  I ran out of the darker stick pins, so used the yellow because I knew they would be on the bottom.  I did not add a bow, because I was using them on my mantle.

Here is the blue in action.  I also made a red one.

I wrapped the left over balls in yarn, and placed them all over the  mantle.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

I also made garland to drape along the mantle with the Christmas stockings.

I used some string, snowflake ornaments from Walmart, and this.

I found this little pack of perfectness at The Home Goods Store for $3.99.  I did not use it to make ornaments.  I am using all the circles for other projects.  For $3.99, I have decorated my mantle, windows, and made gift tags.  Martha I will say it again.  You rock! Have I ever mentioned that my whole wedding was loosely based on Matt Lauer’s wedding that was in a Martha Stewart Wedding edition.  Well, it was, and it was perfect.

The pack even comes with its own glue.  I could go for days on that.  I bought one for for Halloween next year, and as soon as they go on sale, I will be buying more for next Christmas.

Ok, now back to the garland.

I punched a whole in each circle and strung them and the snowflakes like you would fill a string with beads.

Voila!

My mantle is done.  I am trying to get the best picture to show at the end of the week.

My tree is perfect.

I love Christmas.

I am totally finishing this movie today.  Love lost, love found, romance, kissing, and all during Christmas.  The cheese knows no bounds.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree

Yesterday, I sat at my Christmas craft station a.k.a. the kitchen table, and started my crafts for the mantle.  It is all about the mantle for me this year.

I made Christmas trees!!!!!!!  While I was making said trees, I realized that I have yet to make a winter wreath, and I have lost my glue gun.  I guess I will have to turn in my crafting card.

Anwhoo, after finding all sorts of ideas on Pinterest, I went with the yarn trees.  Being a knitter, I have plenty of yarn, which saved me some $$$$.

This is how it all went down.

I bought some styrofoam cones from the floral section of Hobby Lobby, and the yarn is from Walmart.  The prices of the cones were based on their size.  The smaller one shown here came in a package of two for $4.47.   I then started to wrap the yarn around the cone.  I started at the top, and used a stick pin to hold the yarn in place.  The texture of the cone allowed the yarn to stick to it.

As you can see by the pic, you just keep wrapping the yarn around and around, and around.

At the bottom of the cone, I used stick pins again to hold the yarn in place.  They look like little ornaments.  I have not decided yet if I will add anything to the top.  I like it flat, and you really will not be able to see it when it is on the mantle.

I also made a fabric tree.  Same concept, but you have to fold the fabric in places since it is flat and you are working with a round surface.

Here they are!  I love them.

Ignore the button ball.  That is for tomorrow, along with some fun garland I am making.

While Christmas crafting, I believe that Christmas music should be playing in the background.

Here is a playlist I put together.

We watched The Polar Express last night.  It is my second favorite Christmas movie.  My first comes on tonight.

I know there will be a time when my girls no longer believe in Santa, but I always hope they think Christmas is the most magical time of the year.  Just like their seriously sassy mama.

Crafting At The Kells

There is some crafting go on over here at the House of Kells.

I went to Joanne’s yesterday with coupon in hand, and I was not afraid to use it.

I bought yarn, fabric, stocking stuffers, and got the creative juices flowing for some Christmas crafting fun.  I say Christmas, because I have never really been into fall crafting.  I love the leaves, I crazy love the colors, but I am a spring girl.  I love when everything comes alive and the bright colors encompass all that I see.

One thing I am going to make for the month of November, is a wreath.  I enjoyed the Halloween wreaths I made, so I wanted to make one for the fall.

Now, all of my ideas come from Martha, Pinterest, or other blogs.  There are some seriously creative people out there.  I am jealous of the time they take to craft.  I am working on organizing my own little craft corner.  It has been decided that I need an outlet.

Here are some wreaths I am interested in making.

I love the colorful flowers.

via tatertotsandjello.com

What is not to love about this.  I could switch out the fabric, add a little foliage, and presto.

The possibilities are endless.

Currently, I am working on this.

It is my first cowl.  It is my first time to knit in the round.  I am crazy excited about this.  My wish is to be able to knit cardigans.  Then, my knitting life would be complete.  I am using my favorite chunky yarn by Lion Brand called Thick and Quick.  I think someone was in a very randy mood when naming this yarn.  Lol.   I wish I could explain in words, how cathartic knitting is to me.

I am currently coming up with a list of Christmas crafts to make, not to mention the yummy things I am going to bake.  One recipe being my mom’s super duper yummy sugar cookies.  It does not matter how many times I make them, they never taste liker hers.  This year I will prevail.

I also stopped at Home Goods, and bought an inspirational journal to write my thoughts, ideas, to dos, recipes, crafts, and blog ideas in.

I truly believe this, and am going to live it.

Craft On!

Still A Productive Monday, But I Decided to Play On Pinterest

I am posting twice on Monday, because I felt that my first post was crappy and blandly random instead of random with a punch of color.

I am still being productive today.  I actually took the clothes out of the dryer and put them away, then started another load.  When I am done with this post, I am going to unload the dishwasher.

I am designing some art work for my soon to be 6 year old’s room.

In another life, I want to be a fabric designer, oh and the editor for Vogue magazine.

Did I ever tell you that I collected 10 years worth of Vogue magazines.  Years 1990-2000.  That was when Cindy Crawford had House of Style, and Linda Evangalista had bright orange/red hair.  I just knew that if some one from Vogue knew I was collecting the magazines, they would put me in their magazine.

Never happened.

The magazines ended up getting destroyed by a leaky water heater.

I have not been pinning much lately.  I have neglected Pinterest and I am so sorry.

So, I have put together a few things that caught my eye this morning when I was taking a little break from being an adult.

  1. I am really liking all the pallet wood art.  I have a stack of it in my garage.  All I need is some stain and some letter stencils.  I think one of these, and the mirror I want from Hobby Lobby would make the master bedroom complete!
  2. I love all the crafty things you can find on Pinterest.  I am learning a new stitch so I can make some cute coffee cup koozies.
  3. That dress and that cardigan!
  4. My husband and I really need some alone time.  No kids, no work!
  5. I think seeing the Northern Lights is one of my top three things I have always wanted to do.
  6. I love food and doughnuts.
  7. I love words.
  8. I am obsessed with period pieces, and I want to take one of those tours in England where you visit all the sites from the movies.

Ok, I feel much better about this post.

I leave you with a song I heard driving home from work last night.

Sorry about the profanity, but I didn’t write the song.  I just like to jump around to it.

It reminds me of when my friend Stacey and I were moving into our dorm in college.  We had the Femmes playing, and mad dad about blew a gasket.
