Buns And Ribs. A Night With The Kells

My house last night…….

I am sitting in my bed attempting to write something.  There is men’s gymnastics playing on the TV, my girls are watching You Tube while trying to catch popcorn in their mouths, and as tired as I am after not sleeping for three days, I could not imagine this scene any different.

The girls and I threw Mr. Kell into the van and went out for a family dinner at Chilis.  I had ribs, and that is all that needs to be said about that.  I do not think that Mr. Kell talked about sports once.  My four year old brought a dollar to give to the waiter.  His face melted when I gave it to him.  Too precious.

Doesn’t it all sound a little hokey?

The truth is, YouTube lasted about 10 minutes, there is popcorn on my floor,  and my oldest went to her room to be “alone”.  Her baby sister was not happy, and started screaming in a pitch that Mariah Carey could not touch.  So being the awesome mom that I am, I stopped what I was doing to read about Fancy Nancy making cupcakes.  It is not smart to read about cupcakes when Aunt Ruby is visiting and all you want to do is devour a chocolate cake.

One of Fancy Nancy’s words was adore.

According to Ms. Nancy, adore means to really really like something.

So, In honor of Nancy, here are some things I am adoring right now.

  • Most of the men swimming in the Olympics.  Lordy B are they nice to look at.
  • The color mint green.  I want it everywhere.
  • Swimming pools.
  • Simple art.
  • Homemade popsciles.
  • Interesting reads.
  • Top knots.

I wish I dominated a sport.

I would so rock beach volleyball for the vertically challenged!

Silly String Is Always The Answer

You have been exercising like crazy and your jeans still do not fit

Answer:  Silly String

You went to Walmart and the asparagus looks like crap.

Answer:  Silly String

Your husband is working late and your children are driving you nuts.

Answer:  Silly String

It was a Monday.

Answer:  Silly String

My point is.  Silly string makes everything better.

My 6 year old Abby was extra good last week and I told her I would get her something fun.  She wanted silly string, so I went to The Dollar Tree and bought three cans.  When the girls got home from school, the competition began.

My little bit could not figure out how to use the sprayer, so she just ran around laughing with her can in her hand.

This is Abby, she told me when I tucked her in for bed that she was totally the winner.  I love this girl!

It really does make everything better!

Another wonderful week here at The House of Kells.  What am I saying, it is always a wonderful week.  Yes, I am that happy person who even when she is not in the best of moods, and is yelling at the top of her lungs,  is still happy.

A couple of verses from my daily devotional have stuck with me this week.

  1.  “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?  Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”  Luke 12: 25-26
  2. Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessolonians 5:16-18

How could you not possibly be happy, and have that weight on your shoulders disappear after reading those words?  Exactly!

This song makes me smile, a very big smile.

This show makes me happy.

I cannot stop dancing to this song.

The fact that I will not have to wear a maternity swimsuit this summer makes me crazy happy.

Why can’t a back rub just be a back rub?  Things that make you say hmmmm.

I ate lunch with my two oldest daughters this week.  Wednesday I ate with Abby and on the menu was hamburgers and chocolate shakes.  Thursday was Jenna’s turn, and on her menu, chicken fingers, fries, gravy, and chocolate shakes.  I would like to report I only ate the chicken, toast, and gravy. I have complete control.

Abby

Jenna

And of course little bit came along for the ride.

The girls have been snotty this week with all the weather changes we have been having.  Last night, little bit said “Mommy I need medicine to make the snot go back up.”

Abby came to my room last night and since she could not see my face in the dark, I was awaken by hands on my face.  Holy crap, I about lost it before I knew it was her.  She told me she had a dream where she fell down a well.

After I dropped the kids off at school, I got a call from Jenna.  She tells me that she forgot her Nancy Drew book for the storybook parade today at school.  I told her it was in her bag, and it was.  I put it there this morning because I knew she would forget it.  Why thanks, I will take another stamp in my awesome mommy card.

I only work 8 hours tomorrow.  Woo to the Hoo!

Spring Break is next week.  We will see how well my parents wireless works in the country.  I may be spending the week blogging from my phone.

I ate the yummiest pancakes yesterday.  Bob’s Red Mill was the name and wheat pancakes is what you get when you add an egg and some milk. Do you like my coffee mug?  I spend many mornings with Mr. Darcy.  Please do not tell the husband.

A crazy storm blew in yesterday when I was leaving the school after lunch.  When I got in my car it was 65 degrees outside.  By the time I got to Target, which is 5 minutes down the road, it was already 50 degrees outside.

I love going to Target, but I really need to stop spoiling my children.  I have been getting them something every time I go lately.  I just cannot help it.

I do my best to only look at the magazines and not buy them.

I am the mother of all girls!

I have a ton of laundry to do today if I am going to be able to get us all packed.  The benefits of going to your parents, is casual dress.

This will be our first road trip in our new car, and the girls are all ready packing movies they can watch on our drive.  This may just be the quietest drive ever!

Happy Weekend.

Enjoying The Break

I broke down yesterday and went grocery shopping.   I took the little rug rats with me.

They were accessorized to the nines.

Grocery trips are much more pleasant when I make a list.  I so made a list.  I decided to try one of the weekly menus from this magazine.  I am excited to see how everything turns out.  I am especially excited to try the meatless meatballs.

I am slowly working on getting back on track with everything in my life.  It is time to simplify.  I have piles all over the house of items that are going to the Goodwill.  I am even going to get rid of a majority of my coffee mugs.  The husband will be so happy.  I mean really, who needs 30+ coffee mugs when you only drink out of three.

Speaking of the husband, he got me these for Christmas.

I took the pic with Hipstamatic Disposable App.  I am in love.

A few more days left with the kiddos, then it is back to school.

I am working on a list of goals for 2012.  At the top of the list is to potty train this little girl.

Please forgive the mess in the picture.  I hate laundry.

Speaking of the little girl above, she put on a show last night for the family.  She has become quite the performer.  Once I figure out how to add a video I will show everyone.

I hope everyone is having a nice holiday and enjoying some family time.

H Is For Harvest Hoopla

The elementary school my two older girls attend had a harvest hoopla last Friday.  It was held by the PTA and was a blast.  School events always make me feel like a mom.

I was a downer and would not let the girls wear their Halloween costumes, so we improvised.

There was a Halloween fairy, a shake it up girl, and the little mermaid.  My sister sent the girls some costume make-up, and I painted their faces.

Like any good carnival there were fun and games.  Each girl took a turn trying to pie a teacher in the face.   Abby launched the plate and the whip cream came flying off and whacked the teacher in the head.  It was hilarious.  We played some ring toss, hockey, and jumped around in the bounce house.  I even won a cake in the cake walk.  It was chocolate, and I had to throw it away, or I would have eaten the whole thing.

The girls had a great time, and got to hang out with some of their friends.  My oldest even had some admirers follow us around.  Lovely!

I am very grateful that I get to stay home during the week to enjoy things like this with my children.

I need everyone to say a prayer to the craft gods.  I bought some fabric yesterday, and I am going to attempt to make an infinity scarf.  Lordy B.

A Library Carnival

Our public library had a free carnival and the girls had a great time.  All summer long, the library has had planned activities, magicians, jugglers, movies, and oh yeah books for the kids to enjoy.  All in all I think they did a great job.  I love taking my girls to the library.  Nothing like free entertainment when you are paying more  money to drive your car then you are cooling your home.  Anyhoo…

We lucked out, because the carnival was on a day when there was actually overcast, so the hell that is the sun wan not beating down on us.   There was a petting zoo, water slide, and different game booths.  You could even get your face painted, or have someone make you a balloon animal.

Getting ready to leave for the carnival.  It is fun to have sisters.  Abby had a dentist appointment first.  Thank goodness everything was OK.  Next week a cleaning.

The girls were hot, but ready for some fun.  The two older girls had a blast with the giant water slide, and the little one and I preferred the petting zoo.  Those little animals were so stinkin cute.

Turtles and piggies, I love turtles and piggies.  I also love hippos, but oddly enough, they were not at the petting zoo.  Go figure.

We had a really great time.  Prizes were won, popsicles were eaten, balloon flowers were made, then they popped, then they cried, and then it was time for this tired momma to take her pretty girls home.

They ran all the way to the van.  Hey, it was happy hour time at Sonic.  Who wouldn’t run?
