Honor System

blank1I believe in honesty.  I am dumbfounded and disappointed when I am or others are lied to.  I believe in morals, ethics, and values.  I believe that you are supposed to do the right thing.

Call me old fashioned, call me stupid, I believe in integrity.

I was looking through my sister’s Instagram feed, and I cam across this picture.

It is a home made box in the middle of the neighborhood with books inside.   It runs on the honor system.  I did a a little research and found out there is something called The Little Free Library Movement.

Be still my heart.  Encouraging reading and some good old values at the same time.  I melt.

I wonder if something like this would thrive in my neighborhood?

Speaking of reading, books, and honesty…

Do not forget to join your public library’s summer reading program.  Ours starts June 1.  My girls get excited about winning prizes.  I get excited when they sit down and tell me about the books they are reading with excitement on their face.

Reading brings me joy, and I want it to bring joy to my girls too.

Now to compile a list of books to read this summer.

Happy Monday!

Grossology

Grossology – the study of things that are gross.

Last Friday, the girls and I went to the science museum to see the Grossology Exhibit.  I would never had known anything about it if it was not for the public library’s summer reading program.

Free tickets = fun!

Being a nurse, and a bit of a science nerd, I was completely in my element.

Now, for kids, nothing is more fun than things that are gross.

Here is the first thing we saw when we walked into the exhibit.

You know there are good times ahead when the first topic up for discussion is gas!  Each part of the exhibit touched base on a bodily function.  There were little tidbits of info that I made the 8 year old read to her sisters.  You have to educate any chance you get.

We learned about snot from faucet man.

Then the girls each took a turn learning how food turns into feces.  They really thought the machine was scanning them.  I love my girls.

We learned a little tid bit about King Tut.

Then played inside a giant nose.

We had a little spare time to perform an emergency organectomy.

It is another memory with my girls to put in the books.  We have a few more to accomplish before school starts in a couple of weeks!

What fun things have you done with your kids this summer?

A Library Carnival

Our public library had a free carnival and the girls had a great time.  All summer long, the library has had planned activities, magicians, jugglers, movies, and oh yeah books for the kids to enjoy.  All in all I think they did a great job.  I love taking my girls to the library.  Nothing like free entertainment when you are paying more  money to drive your car then you are cooling your home.  Anyhoo…

We lucked out, because the carnival was on a day when there was actually overcast, so the hell that is the sun wan not beating down on us.   There was a petting zoo, water slide, and different game booths.  You could even get your face painted, or have someone make you a balloon animal.

Getting ready to leave for the carnival.  It is fun to have sisters.  Abby had a dentist appointment first.  Thank goodness everything was OK.  Next week a cleaning.

The girls were hot, but ready for some fun.  The two older girls had a blast with the giant water slide, and the little one and I preferred the petting zoo.  Those little animals were so stinkin cute.

Turtles and piggies, I love turtles and piggies.  I also love hippos, but oddly enough, they were not at the petting zoo.  Go figure.

We had a really great time.  Prizes were won, popsicles were eaten, balloon flowers were made, then they popped, then they cried, and then it was time for this tired momma to take her pretty girls home.

They ran all the way to the van.  Hey, it was happy hour time at Sonic.  Who wouldn’t run?
